At AISB, our Early Childhood program includes EC3 (for 3-year-olds) and EC4 (for 4-year-olds).
We believe that every child is inherently curious and capable, bringing their unique interests and experiences as learners. Our program offers a rich environment focused on language development, self-expression, and collaboration, while nurturing children’s natural sense of wonder and fostering a strong connection with the surrounding forest and nature.

Welcome to Early Childhood at AISB
In Early Childhood at AISB
We prioritize play and inquiry, providing ample time for exploration.
Instruction is tailored to meet individual needs through both one-on-one and small-group settings. Students come together as a community for class discussions, celebrations, shared meals, and collaborative activities in our communal pod space.
Our balanced curriculum encompasses academic, physical, artistic, and social-emotional learning. Outdoor adventures, including forest walks, ignite curiosity and inspire many of the children's inquiries. For our EC3 students, nap or quiet time is offered to recharge during the day. Mindfulness practices and storytelling provide a calming pause for all Early Childhood children.
We look forward to embarking on this educational journey with your family!

We use "I Can" statements to help children see themselves as capable, confident learners and to guide our goal-setting. These statements promote key skills aligned with being Global Citizens, focusing on:
- Responsibility: "I can take responsibility for myself."
- Agency: "I can make choices about my learning."
- Collaboration: "I can collaborate with others."
- Critical Thinking: "I can solve problems."
- Communication: "I can express my ideas and thinking."
We support young children's development through joyful, playful movement experiences both indoors and outdoors. Dedicated physical education activities build strength, balance, and coordination. Our program includes the support of an occupational therapist who provides individualized and small group attention to help children develop key motor skills in ways that are fun and responsive to their unique needs.
Our program is a joyful, child-centred approach where children sing, dance, and play their way into a love of music. We explore rhythm, songs, and stories that spark imagination, build confidence, and support language skills in a playful manner, making music a joyful part of everyday life.
The Atelier is much more than an art room; it's a vibrant, creative space for research, discovery, and communication. Here, children explore their ideas through a wide range of artistic materials and expressive languages, making their thinking visible through various mediums. This space is essential for nurturing curiosity, supporting deep learning, and honoring each child's voice and creativity.
These regular experiences nurture a meaningful relationship with the natural world, supporting their physical, emotional, and cognitive development. The natural, uneven terrain of the forest also provides vital opportunities for climbing, running, and developing key motor skills—a perfect complement to our indoor motion program.
Nestled between a forest and a meadow, our campus surroundings are one of our best teachers. Experiences in the forest are an integral part of our program, giving children the chance to connect deeply with nature and develop a strong sense of place. Through regular, open-ended play in these natural spaces, children build confidence, curiosity, and resilience, which aligns with our school-wide commitment to fostering a lifelong sense of care for the environment and leading sustainably.
We honor each child's natural rhythm and prioritize their wellbeing. We build a balanced flow to the day with extended, unhurried morning play and a calm period for rest or sleep in the afternoon. For our three-year-olds, this includes a dedicated nap time. We also offer a half-day option for our youngest learners, recognizing diverse family and child needs.
Our philosophy centers on viewing young children as capable, curious, and full of potential. We foster a nurturing, play-based environment where learning unfolds through hands-on inquiry, meaningful relationships, and a variety of creative expression (art, storytelling, movement). We prioritize collaboration as the heart of our days, allowing children to deepen their thinking and skills together.
