AISB Students Join the 2026 Changemakers Conference

08.03.2026

Last week, a group of our students traveled to Düsseldorf to take part in the Changemakers Conference at the International School Düsseldorf. They joined 270 peers from 33 schools, all coming together with a simple but powerful goal: turning big ideas into real-world action.

The Changemaker movement, which began at Frankfurt International School in 2023, has grown into a massive international network. It is built on the idea that young people do not have to wait to make a difference—they can start right now by developing empathy, leadership, and creative problem-solving skills.

Day 1: Finding the Spark

The team hit the ground running in Düsseldorf, diving straight into a day of inspirational speakers and collective action. Through networking sessions and collaborative icebreakers, the AISB delegation started building an international "brain trust." It was a great reminder that while one person can start a conversation, a collective of students from all over the world is unstoppable.

Day 2: Getting Hands-On

Friday was all about "getting your hands dirty." Students jumped into specialized workshops—ranging from social entrepreneurship to community activism—turning abstract concepts into practical plans.

A huge highlight for our community was seeing David Imre-Katai, one of our Grade 8 students, take the lead. He facilitated a workshop on AISB’s own circular economy project: transforming discarded bottle caps into new products. It was inspiring to watch students from other schools build collection boxes to take home, effectively "seeding" our sustainability model across Europe.

Day 3: From "What If" to "What Is Next"

By the final day, the energy in the room shifted from brainstorming to commitment. Every school left with a concrete "Impact Plan" to bring back to their home campus. Our AISB team signed up to design a bespoke digital platform for Changemakers. This hub will allow student leaders globally to celebrate milestones, share resources, and keep the momentum of the conference alive all year long.

The conference may have lasted only three days, but the ideas, partnerships, and projects that began in Düsseldorf are only just getting started. We are excited to see this digital platform take shape and watch our students continue to lead the way.
