What Was This Parents in Partnership Session About?
This week, AISB parents gathered for another meaningful Parents in Partnership session, focused on executive functioning and how these skills support children’s learning, independence, and well-being. The workshop offered space for shared understanding, practical strategies, and thoughtful conversation around a topic that touches many families.
Understanding Executive Functioning and ADHD
During the session, parents explored what executive functioning is and how it develops over time. Together, we examined why these skills do not develop automatically and why they can be especially challenging for children with ADHD. While the session was not about diagnosis, it was designed to deepen understanding and provide concrete tools that families can begin using right away. Parents learned how executive functioning skills show up both at home and at school, why children with ADHD may experience these challenges more intensely, and how strengthening these skills benefits all children.
Learning Together Through Shared Experience
The session was marked by openness and courage. Parents asked reflective questions, shared personal experiences, and engaged in meaningful dialogue with one another at their tables. A True and False activity sparked lively discussion and connection, reinforcing the value of learning together as a community. The atmosphere in the room reflected trust, curiosity, and a shared commitment to supporting children with empathy and intention.
Practical Strategies to Support Children at Home
Our goal was for parents to leave with a greater sense of understanding and at least one practical strategy to support confidence, self-regulation, and growing independence at home. These tools are valuable for every child and essential for children with ADHD.
Continuing the Home–School Partnership
Thank you to all the parents who joined us with such openness and engagement. We look forward to continuing these important conversations and strengthening the partnership between home and school.
