Founded in 1973, AISB is an accredited, private, non-profit international school.  AISB is accredited by CIS and MSA, and is a member of CEESA, SCIS, IB, and ISTA.

AISB is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and offers the IB Diploma program in addition to our American High School Diploma and our Global Impact Diploma. Students can graduate with a combination of these Diplomas accredited by CIS and the Middle States Association. The high school program is based on an American educational model within an international context with a focus on critical thinking skills, creativity, and inquiry-based learning.  All courses focus on developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions, as well as a global perspective, to equip students to flourish in a rapidly changing workplace.  All students have access to a wide range of courses and pathways to cater to students’ different interests and needs. English is the language of instruction, except in World Language courses.

AISB occupies a single campus of 19 hectares on the western outskirts of Budapest. The Middle/High School building houses 51 classrooms, library, cafeteria, computer rooms, double-sized gymnasium, single-size gymnasium, 25-meter swimming pool, 350-seat theatre, and performing and visual arts facilities. The Elementary building has 27 classrooms, library, cafeteria, computer rooms, double-size gymnasium, and performing and visual arts facilities. In the grounds, there are two soccer fields, an athletics track with lights, 4 floodlit tennis courts and a basketball court. 

AISB has a strong Student Support Program, and a varied Extra-Curricular program running throughout the school. AISB graduates are welcomed each year to a broad range of the world’s most selective colleges and universities.

Reports to: Director

Position Overview

The Technology and Innovation Director reports to the Director and works closely with the Finance and Operations Director and divisional leaders. The Technology and Innovation Director is a member of the AISB Senior Leadership Team and works across all four school divisions and all school operations.

The Technology and Innovation Director will apply their experience and expertise to oversee and lead the ongoing development and improvement of the school's business and educational technology operations. 

The Technology and Innovation Director will draw upon their leadership experience and skills to engage and empower the IT Department, Senior Leadership Team, and faculty to leverage technology to enhance learning and increase operational efficiency.

Building on the school’s vision and Strategic Plan, the Technology and Innovation Director will investigate, review, and implement innovations to ensure the school’s program, resources, and learning environment all address the future needs of our students. 

Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications

  1. 10+ years of experience in a technology leadership role

  2. Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Degree or certification in Educational Leadership or Administration

Experience

  1. Demonstrated expertise in strategic and financial management, including budgeting (CapEx/OpEx), IT ROI tracking, vendor management, contract negotiations, and multi-year technology roadmapping

  2. Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams through effective hiring, continuous coaching, performance evaluation, and professional development

  3. Demonstrated success in leading digital transformation across an organization

  4. Experience managing IT infrastructure, systems, and platforms 

  5. Demonstrated experience in vendor negotiations, competitive tendering, and IT procurement to maximize budget efficiency

  6. A track record of co-leading, collaborating, and sharing expertise with colleagues

  7. Commitment to continuous evaluation and integration of emerging technologies to drive institutional innovation

  8. Ability to differentiate professional learning to meet the needs of adult learners

  9. Demonstrated experience in leading an institution through innovative technology developments

  10. Experience leading a team through the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence (AI)

  11. Extensive knowledge of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements and the related policies, procedures, and measures to mitigate data breaches

Roles and Responsibilities

Leading a Shared Vision 

  1. Ensure the school’s mission, vision, and values are central to all decisions and influence learning in the school

  2. Develop long-term technology plans aligned with the AISB vision

Leading a Culture of Learning

  1. Develop structures and systems to ensure all students, faculty, and staff receive the support they need to flourish

  2. Promote a culture focused on developing a growth mindset in all aspects of learning and for all community members

  3. Remain up to date on research and trends in education, and lead conversations to ensure AISB remains at the forefront of best practice

  4. Lead initiatives and carefully manage change to ensure the focus remains on the learning and the learners

  5. Develop review processes to evaluate, select, and purchase technology and systems to support learning and communication

  6. Lead the school’s approach to GDPR, providing training and guidance to the community to mitigate data breaches

Leading Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy

  1. Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing review of a comprehensive, school-wide AI strategy aligned with the AISB mission, vision, and Strategic Plan

  2. Establish and communicate the school’s position on AI use for students, faculty, and staff, including clear guidelines for responsible and ethical use

  3. Identify and implement AI solutions that increase efficiency across all areas of school operations, including teaching and learning, admissions, finance, human resources, communications, and facilities

  4. Support faculty and staff to explore AI and look for opportunities where it can enhance learning, improve processes, and add value to their work

  5. Use AI purposefully to reduce workload for faculty and staff, freeing time for the work that has the greatest impact on students

  6. Provide ongoing professional learning, training, and practical guidance so that all community members can use AI confidently, effectively, and responsibly

  7. Collaborate with the Directors of Teaching and Learning to guide the appropriate use of AI in curriculum, assessment, and academic integrity

  8. Evaluate AI tools for data privacy, GDPR compliance, security, age-appropriateness, and alignment with school needs before they are approved for use

  9. Monitor developments in AI, assess emerging opportunities and risks, and report regularly to the Senior Leadership Team on progress and impact

Leading a Culture Focused on Student Well-being and Safeguarding

  1. In collaboration with the Safeguarding Lead, ensure the development of recording systems to document all child safeguarding incidents in the school

  2. Ensure a safe online learning environment through the use of preventative systems and education

  3. Identify threats facing the school community and proactively look for solutions

  4. Provide guidance to the community about safe online practices and a positive online presence

  5. Develop policies and procedures to protect student data

Leading Human Development & Empowerment  

  1. Lead, mentor, and empower the five-member IT Department to build a highly skilled, service-oriented technical team

  2. Guide the IT Department to implement innovations, support learning, and develop infrastructure and systems across the school

  3. Effectively manage disruptive and continuous change while prioritizing well-being and organizational climate

Operational Leadership

  1. Lead the IT Department in providing state-of-the-art servers, networks, data integration, and student information systems

  2. Establish, test, and assess organizational and cybersecurity systems for the school

  3. Evaluate all software and hardware options, making recommendations ahead of the procurement process

  4. Construct and maintain a sustainable cycle for the purchase of hardware and software that will provide a cutting-edge learning environment

  5. Coordinate with the Network and Database Manager to continuously optimize, monitor, and administer the school’s networks and network services

  6. Manage the technology Operational Expenditures (OpEx) and Capital Expenditures (CapEx) budgets

  7. Prepare the annual operating and capital budgets for technology

  8. Ensure software licensing compliance and maintain an accurate inventory

  9. Maintain the school’s fixed asset registry for technology

  10. Review and maintain the Data Protection Policy

Leading IT Crisis Management & Operational Continuity

  1. IT Incident Response: Lead the school’s technology response to critical incidents, including cyberattacks, ransomware, system outages, data breaches, and other emergencies.

  2. Business Continuity Planning: Establish, test, and maintain robust disaster recovery and resilience protocols to ensure school-wide administrative and learning operations continue during unplanned disruptions.

  3. Crisis Communication Infrastructure: Ensure the reliability, security, and immediate readiness of emergency communication channels, notification systems, and safety technology platforms during campus crises.

  4. Post-Incident Recovery & Review: Direct root-cause analyses and post-incident reviews following technology failures or emergency disruptions to continuously strengthen institutional resilience.
