AISB seeks an experienced and passionate part-time High School Social Studies Teacher to join our dynamic secondary faculty with a starting date of August 2026.

Reports To: High School Principal
Position overview:
The successful candidate will have a strong background and experience teaching social studies or humanities courses at the high school level. The position involves teaching two Grade 10 classes with a possible additional class of IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK).
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement school policies and procedures to support AISB’s Mission, Vision, and Values
- Teach Grade 10 Social Studies and possibly IB Theory of Knowledge
- Plan, deliver, and assess engaging, inquiry-based lessons that support a diverse, international student body
- Incorporate research-based teaching practices and maintain current curriculum documentation on school platforms such as Atlas and Veracross
- Use formative and summative assessment effectively to guide learning and provide timely, constructive feedback
- Design for learner variance and differentiate instruction to meet varied learning needs
- Plan and collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure curricular coherence, vertical alignment, and shared best practice
- Support students in developing critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and research skills
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress using school platforms (e.g., Veracross, Google Workspace)
- Maintain high expectations for student conduct, fostering a respectful and positive learning environment
- Integrate technology intentionally to enhance learning and engagement
- Participate actively in the life of the school, including co-curricular activities, Core Expeditions (overnight trips), faculty meetings, and professional learning communities

Knowledge:
- Demonstrates strong content knowledge and pedagogy in social studies, or related field, and a proven ability to make connections within and across disciplines
- Familiarity with inquiry-based learning, concept-based curriculum design, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) would be an advantage
- Understands Backward Design planning, and Standards-Based Teaching, Grading, and Reporting would be an advantage
- Demonstrates an understanding of typical developmental characteristics of adolescents
Degrees and experience:
- Holds a valid teaching certification (or equivalent) and teaching experience at the high school level.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, or a related field
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience teaching using the C3 Framework for Social Studies
- An ability to teach Theory of Knowledge (TOK) or a willingness to develop this capacity is highly desirable.
- Experience with Course Management software (e.g., Veracross, Google Apps) and online grading
Certification and/or experience supporting English Language Learners
