ES Assistant Teacher (1:1 Paraprofessional) 

Reports To: Assigned Teacher, ES Administration 
Position Overview: The primary role of the 1:1 Paraprofessional is to provide academic, social, and emotional support to individual and/or small groups of students within assigned classes. The paraprofessional collaborates with teachers to facilitate the development of the assigned student in the cognitive, affective, social, emotional, and physical domains of his/her growth for both on-site and off-site learning. The position is full-time and requires the paraprofessional to be on campus from 08:00 - 3:45 each working day. The day-to-day schedule for this role will be co-created by the 1:1 and the homeroom/mentor teacher.

Degrees and Experience

  • Degree in Education (preferred)

  • Experience working with Elementary School-aged students, preferably as a Paraprofessional / 1:1 Aide

  • Proficient in oral and written English

  • Technology literate in Web Applications, Google Applications, and other current trends in the field of technology

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Adheres to and supports the mission, vision, and values of AISB, as well as board policies, administrative procedures, and school expectations as outlined in the AISB handbook.
  • Assist student(s), individually or in small groups to attain learning objectives.
  • Assist teaching staff in the instruction, direct supervision, and behavioral management (in the classroom and other areas as required) of an individual student, or at times with a small group of students.
  • Assist student(s), when working individually or in small groups, by providing specific/targeted, action-oriented, and focused feedback to help guide their learning.
  • Implement lesson plans as designed by the teacher; support in the delivery of instruction for assigned student(s).
  • Communicate measurable learning objectives and guide assigned students toward mastery of goals.
  • Oversee student supervision inside and outside the classroom.
  • Meet with teachers regularly to assist in co-planning and implementing a program of instruction with purposeful activities.
  • Assist in assessing curricular goals across subject areas and modify learning experiences per the assigned student's academic profile.
  • Utilize instructional techniques and appropriate instructional material as determined by the classroom teacher or mentor
  • Understand the goals and objectives outlined in the assigned student’s Learning Support Plan (LSP), Behavior Support Plan (BSP), or Targeted Intervention Plan (TIP).
  • Establish regular communication in conjunction with the homeroom/mentor teacher with the assigned student’s parents about progress and development.
  • Positively manage student behavior in alignment with our child safeguarding policy.
  • Assist teachers and student(s) in documenting learning (for example, through photos, videos, and bulletin boards).
  • Share knowledge, skills, and pedagogical practices with teachers and assistant teachers as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of time.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with members of the school community.
