AISB’s New Standard for Student-Centered Education

10.12.2025

The American International School of Budapest (AISB) is proud to be a pioneer of the Global Impact Diploma (GID) with the unique introduction of the Dual Diploma, which combines the GID and the IB diplomas. These new programs are a testament of our commitment to personalized learning pathways.

A Proud History of Innovation and Agency

For over 50 years, AISB has been committed to empowering learners to build their futures and contribute to a better world. Our drive to create innovative educational pathways led us to launch the Innovation Diploma in 2023, a program specifically designed to focus on student well-being and agency. Interest grew within the educational community towards this concept, culminating in the Pathways Summit in 2024. With 150 participants from around the globe, comprising educators and students alike, the summit marked a significant milestone in creating a program that rewards student agency and prepares them for life beyond university applications. This powerful collaboration led to the launch of the groundbreaking Global Impact Diploma Program in August 2025 with 25 founding schools worldwide.

Beyond Exams: Empowering Students to Lead with Impact

The GID is a two-year sequence of courses designed to inspire students to take on real-world challenges and prepare them to make a meaningful impact. AISB is proud to offer an extensive list of courses, including Foundations of Leadership for Impact, The Imperfect Art of Living, Entrepreneurship for Impact, and Internship for Impact, for the 40+ students who are currently enrolled.

Across these subjects, the key design principles are:

  • Focusing on Impact: Students engage in deep, specialized study, combining academic coursework with real-world internships and a culminating Impact Project.
  • Embracing Agency: The curriculum is designed to be flexible, empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey.

The appeal of the GID is the opportunity to pursue a deeply personal path. As one student shared, the GID felt more like their style of learning, "tailored to my needs and how my brain works".

The Unique Dual Diploma: Creating Conditions for Every Student

AISB is committed to recognizing each individual’s unique talents. To support this vision, we are proud to pioneer a truly unique offering in the world: the IBDP & GID Dual Diploma.

AISB is the first school in the world to collaborate with the IBDP to strategically shift the Diploma Program to a 3-year model, starting in Grade 10. This structure allows students to pursue both the comprehensive IB Diploma and the purpose-driven Global Impact Diploma. By offering this Dual Diploma.

At AISB, we focus on possibilities, promoting pathways and providing the tools and conditions that help students find their voice, embrace their passions, and achieve their goals.
