School profile

AISB is a private and independent co-educational day school governed by a Board of Trustees elected and appointed from our parent community. The school was established in 1973 by the United States Embassy, initially to serve children of U.S. Government employees. AISB currently serves the needs of a rapidly expanding international population, including families of the local and expatriate business and diplomatic communities, as well as host-country nationals.

AISB offers an international curriculum from Multiage 3 through Grade 12, informed by best teaching practices. At the high school level, we offer the full International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program.

Our student body is currently comprised of over 900 students representing more than 60 nationalities. We are committed to preserving this international character to foster a positive learning environment as well as develop lifelong learners and globally responsible citizens of tomorrow.

Our state-of-the-art campus is a magnificent setting for an engaging and stimulating learning environment. We have frequently been referred to as the most beautiful school campus in the world!

AISB operates three divisions on the 33-acre Nagykovácsi campus. We are close to the leafy residential suburbs of Budapest and within easy reach of central Budapest's beautiful business, commerce, and tourist districts.

Two buildings, linked by a bridge, unite our entire student body. The Elementary building houses students from Multiage 3 to Grade 5 while the Middle and High School building is home to Grades 6 through 12.

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the American International School of Budapest. The main responsibilities of the board are to assure that

  • Our students receive the best education
  • Our teachers have all the resources to teach and benefit from a constructive working environment
  • The school budget is well funded to support our Mission, Vision & Values

The AISB Board of Trustees has 11 voting members, 3 elected school parents, 6 appointed members and a Representative from the US Embassy. The School Director and a Teacher Representative also sit on the Board as non-voting members. The US Ambassador is the Honorary Chair.
