Daily
Schedule
Our school day begins at 8:30
a.m. and dismisses at 3:30 p.m.
Note: One classroom instructional block is replaced with two 50 minute Specials (Art, Music, P.E., etc.).
The Elementary School has adopted the "Balanced School Day", which promotes a better learning environment by meeting the nutritional needs of students in a more balanced way and providing more quality time for physical activity and play. A typical school day consists of three 100-minute instructional blocks and two nutrition/activity breaks in which children have time to eat and time to play.
Students receive many benefits from the Balanced School Day approach:
Academic Performance - Studies on brain compatibility have found support for a balance of learning, physical activity and nutrition throughout a school day. In most studies, it was found that students are better able to focus on their schoolwork the full day rather than running out of energy towards the end of the day.
Balanced Nutrition - Health authorities indicate that children need frequent food breaks each day. The schedule provides two opportunities during the school day when students sit down to eat together. Students who are nutritionally satisfied can concentrate better and learn more effectively.
Physical Activity - Students take part in two 20-25 minutes of uninterrupted play during the day. The quality excercise time energizes students, helps them to concentrate better on schoolwork and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
More Time For Learning - To maximize learning for children, the new schedule provides a significant block of intensive teaching/learning time without interruption.
Literacy Program - Longer uninterrupted blocks of time for literacy programming (reading, writing, oral and visual communication) provide an excellent opportunity for teachers to fine-tune the literacy that they have been developing for a number of years.
