Middle School Daily Schedule
The student day begins
at 8:30 and the afternoon dismissal is at 3:30. There are eight
40-minute periods each day. Middle School students have
a fifteen-minute break in the morning and a forty-minute lunch
period. Class schedules for 2008-2009 vary in length of instructional
periods to meet both students' needs and the requirements of
curriculum and instruction. For example, Physical Education/Health
classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 80 minutes each of
those days whereas World language classes meet every day for
40 minutes to give students regular practice in acquiring language
skills.
Every other Monday
all Middle School students assemble in the theater for Assembly.
Student leaders, in partnership with the Student Council advisors,
establish a weekly assembly agenda. Student leaders conduct
the assembly, and announcements are made regarding upcoming
events. Special performances, recognitions, and celebrations
of accomplishments are acknowledged and shared at assemblies.
Alternate Mondays are designated for a tutorial period in which
students can, for example, seek help from teachers, use computers
in the lab or library, and/or work on group projects.
The Core Team teachers
(Humanities, Math, and Science) are encouraged to make
adjustments to the Core Team class periods in order to match
time (class minutes) to various learning objectives and a variety
of instructional strategies.
