Special Days
Fine Arts Festival:
This week of emphasis, usually in May is an occasion for the
students to display work or perform in any of the fine art areas.
We coordinate our week's activities with the Middle and High School
for special events as well.
Halloween:
Halloween, celebrated on October 31, is a western custom with origins going
back to ancient times. In the Elementary School a costume parade,
class parties, and a pumpkin sale are the main events.
Field Trips:
The Elementary School takes advantage of the rich cultural
and historical opportunities which are present in Budapest area for our children.
Notices are
sent home informing you of a planned field trip and often asking
for parental assistance in helping with small children. Many of
the trips are organized through our Hungarian Culture Program.
International Week:
This week of emphasis by the entire school is to celebrate our cultural and historical similarities and differences. International understanding is a central theme in our curricular program and we highlight many of our ongoing topics and themes during this week. International Week is one of the biggest and most popular annual events, providing a taste of cultures from around the world.
Valentine's Day:
Valentine's Day, February 14, is usually celebrated with a classroom party and the exchange of valentines or small friendship cards among classmates. The One-Hundred Day celebration may be combined with the Valentine's Day activities if they occur reasonably close on the calendar.
Winter Bazaar:
This is a major PSA fund raiser which is also an International Showcase. It
is held in early December with various countries sponsoring booths
which sell food and handicrafts from that country. Selected vendors
sell items of interest and make this a Winter shopping opportunity.
Service clubs and different student groups provide entertainment
and game possibilities for young children. School choral and band
groups perform and create a holiday atmosphere at the Elementary
School.
Winter Concerts:
The Elementary School Winter Concerts, performed on two evenings
in December, are the culminating event of the music program for the fall. Winter
and holiday music is presented by each class and the band. Music selections
represent a variety of countries and winter holiday celebrations.
Special ProgramsCommunity Service Group:
This group is involved in doing service projects for the community. Past projects have included collection of money, toys, clothes, soaps, blankets, sports equipment etc. for orphans, homeless and refugees. The student body also collects food for pets at the local animal shelter. Students also assist within AISB when needed.
