NK Main Entrance

Nagykovacsi Campus
Pre-K3 to Grades 12

FACILITIES

The school first opened in 1973 in an American owned apartment building in Pest. In February 1998, the school moved to a beautiful, new, purpose-built facility on Kakukk út, in the Buda hills. There were 100 students at that time. By September, 1991, however, the school outgrew this facility and began renting facilities at nearby Csillebérc. With the continued growth in enrollment, AISB constructed a second campus in Nagykovácsi, some twenty minutes from the center of Budapest. The campus opened in August 2000 and housed students from grades 3 to 12 while the Buda Campus was home to Pre-K to grade 2.

Today, AISB operate four divisions in Nagykovács campus. In the fall 2009, a brand new Elementary School facility was built on Nagykovácsi campus thus uniting the entire school community on one state-of-the-art campus. The two facilities, linked by a bridge, provide a high quality educational environment for students aged 3 to 18. The first building, houses students from grades 6 to 12 and is complete with 51 classrooms, library, cafeteria, 4 computer rooms, double-sized gymnasium, auxiliary gymnasium, 25-meter indoor swimming pool, performing and visual arts facilities and 350-seat theater. Within the grounds are tennis courts, outside basketball courts and beautiful playing fields.

The second building, AISB's New Elementary School houses studets Pre-K3 to grade 5. The building is very definitely 'age-appropriate'. The classroom cluster concept and the Early Years Center help create the small, cozy and inviting environment that is so important for young children. They then move to specialized rooms elsewhere in the building for music, art, drama, technology and PE. Throughout the school there is flexible use of IT to support our technology integration programs.

The way that we use and protect the environment has never been more sharply in focus than today. The NES building is being built to 'Leadership in Educational and environmental Design' (LEED) certification standards and our own concept of 'sensible design'. These sensible design features include efficient energy use, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality and increased use of natural light. The NES building aesthetically merges with the current 'award-winning' NK building, thus giving a value-added setting for our educational programs.
