On behalf of the AISB School
Board, the Governance Committee is pleased to announce that the Board is now
fully seated for the next academic year, 2009-1o.
School Board elections in April
were declared valid with 37% of parents voting. The Board congratulates the
following new elected Board members, listed alphabetically: Marianne Bollen, Pierre Boutin, Barbara
Brill, and Peter de Groot, who served as
an appointed Board member this year.
The Board also welcomes Chris Dederick as the new AISB Student Representative, and
congratulates Hanan Cohen on his
re-election as PSA Chair.
Finally, after following the
appointment process outlined in the School's policy manual, the Governance
Committee made its final recommendations for appointments to the Board at the
May 12th Board meeting. The Board approved the re-appointment of Larry
Kinde, current Board Chair, and Ilona Jankovich,
current Board Vice-Chair, to fill the two open appointed seats.
The Board's decision was based on
its need for continuity, given the fact that the school is in the midst of a
major transition to a single campus and the implementation of its Strategic
Plan, as well as on the incumbents' considerable experience and involvement
with all facets of these complex undertakings.
Larry Kinde
has served on the Board for two years, with the first year on the Building
& Development Committee and the second year as Chair. Ilona
Jankovich has served on the Board for four years. In
addition to being the Vice-Chair, she also chairs the Strategic Planning
Committee.
These new and returning Board
members join current Board members Kim Carralero,
Andrew Higgins, and Alan Vincent, returning Faculty
Representative Chris Mortenson, and School
Director Ray Holliday-Bersegeay.
The Board is delighted that the remaining candidates for appointment have expressed interest in joining Board Committees. Their applications will now be forwarded to the appropriate Committee Chairs after the June Board meeting, when Committee Chairs are approved for the 2009-10 school year.
The AISB School Board plays a key role in ensuring
that AISB delivers a quality education in line with the school's Mission,
Vision, and Values. The School Board, in looking to the future, must always be
concerned with maintaining Board member continuity in the interest of
successfully and consistently meeting on-going and long-term development and
financial goals. For this reason, we are always looking for qualified parents
who are interested in sharing their expertise and experience, both by joining
Board Committees and by running for election.
Please consider contributing your time and talents to
ensure that AISB realizes its vision to "be a leader among the international
schools of Europe, recognized for its outstanding students, dedicated faculty,
excellent facilities, and rich and challenging programs for students and the
community." You can make a difference!
Thank you for your support.
